OSU Takes Commitment to CQ and Unconscious Bias to Next Level

Earlier this fall, we facilitated yet another successful In-House Unconscious Bias Certification Program at Ohio State University (OSU), certifying twenty staff and faculty from a wide range of departments and divisions across campus, including the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, as well as the Office of Inclusion and Diversity. Each of these individuals is now equipped to facilitate our Culture Matters: Managing Unconscious Bias training workshop with others across the campus community.

OSU, through the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity, is widely known for its outstanding work on implicit bias. Part of the work of the institute includes the creation of a bi-annual report highlighting some of the research done across different areas such as business, health care, and education. CQC is delighted that OSU sees our work and training on unconscious bias as a perfect complement to the great work they are already doing.

Similar to the CQ Certification Program we facilitated at OSU a few years ago, interested staff and faculty were required to apply to participate in the training as well as commit to facilitating at least one unconscious bias training a year. According to Kathy Lechman, Director of Equity and Inclusion in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences, this is one way to ensure a strong return on their investment and strive towards sustainability in their D&I efforts.
