At the Cultural Intelligence Center, we, like others, have been paying close attention to the situation unfolding in Afghanistan. In fact, the Afghanistan crisis hits close to home through Lyla Kohistany, our Master Facilitator and Director of Government Programs at the Cultural Intelligence Center.
Lyla was born in Afghanistan and is a refugee of the Soviet invasion, having successfully integrated into the United States in the 1980’s.
Lyla is a veteran of the Afghanistan war, both as an active-duty U.S. Naval Intelligence officer and as a civilian cultural adviser.
She has invested the last 15 years advising top US and NATO military and government officials on the Afghan conflict and has a unique ability to bridge between the Afghan and Western cultures. In support of the cultural training and advisement she was providing government officials, Lyla attended CQ Certification in 2011 and has worked with us since 2017. Many of you have experienced her training firsthand. We couldn’t be prouder of the work Lyla is doing with us and others around the world.
As a refugee herself, Lyla is committed to helping with the resettlement of Afghan refugees in the U.S. As thousands of Afghans relocate, now more than ever, organizations and communities need cultural intelligence to help them integrate and rebuild their lives. If you need training or consulting to support newly settled Afghans, contact Lyla.
If you would like to learn more about Lyla’s life and work, here’s an excerpt of an interview she recently did with NPR:
As A Child, She Fled The Afghan War. As An Officer, She Returned — And Found Herself
